Our History

The Mossy family has been serving customers for almost 100 years and 5 generations of family members.

  • 1921 - 1934

    1921 - The First Generation 1.0 - Wiley Mossy
    1921 - Wiley Mossy Sr. began selling Buicks in New Orleans. After 12 years, Wiley saved enough money to purchase his own Oldsmobile franchise near the French Quarter. When the Great Depression occurred, his perseverance and strong moral compass kept the doors open and customers coming back. For Wiley, customers came first in every way: “It’s simple really, if you treat them right - honestly and fairly, they will come back.” He passed his ethical code and work ethic to his two sons, who joined Wiley following their military service in World War II.

    1934 - Wiley Mossy Sr. opened Mossy Motors on Rampart Street in New Orleans. Mossy was only the third car dealer to open in the city, and the first Oldsmobile dealer in the entire State of Louisiana.

  • 1945 - 1956

    1945 - The Second Generation - Mossy 2.0 - Wiley Mossy JR
    1945 - After his military service in the Navy during WWII, Wiley returned and joined his father in the business in New Orleans. Then, in 1970, Wiley JR decided it was time to take his family and open a dealership of his own in Houston, Texas. The store he purchased was an Oldsmobile dealership in downtown Houston. With the help of his son, Philip Mossy, Wiley Mossy Jr was quickly able to bring the Oldsmobile store to one of the highest-ranking stores in the U.S.

    1954 - Roy Mossy joins his brother and father in the business after serving in the Korean War.

    1956 - Mossy Motors moved from Rampart Street in New Orleans.

  • 1969 - 1993

    1969 - The Third Generation - Mossy 3.0 - Phil Mossy
    1969 - During this time, the next generation, Philip Mossy, moved even farther west to start Mossy Nissan in San Diego, CA. It too, would go on to become a top dealer in national sales and service.

    1978 - David Mossy, Part of Generation 3.0 Joins the Family Business full time.

    1982 - Mossy Nissan in National City opens. “Legendary Mossy Nissan Jingle is born”

    1983 - Peter Mossy, Part of Generation 3.0 Joins the Family Business full Time

    1988 - Mossy Ford in Pacific Beach opens

    1993 - Mossy Nissan in Kearny Mesa opens

  • 1993 - 2018

    1993 - The Fourth Generation - Mossy 4.0 - Jason Mossy
    1993 - Jason Mossy Joins full time.

    1993 - Owen Mossy, Part of Generation 4.0

    1996 - Due to the success of the two Mossy Nissan stores in San Diego, Nissan decided to experiment with having one dealer group own all of its stores in a market. That year, the Mossys were able to acquire Mossy Nissan Escondido, Mossy Nissan El Cajon, and Mossy Nissan Oceanside.

    2004 - Mossy Toyota in Pacific Beach opens

    2009 - Ashton Mossy, Part of Generation 4.0 joins the family business full time.

    2011 - Mossy VW Escondido opens

    2013 - Mossy Honda Lemon Grove opens

    2014 - Travis Mossy, son of Peter Mossy, Part of Generation 4.0, joins the family business full time.

    2018 - Mossy Infiniti Oceanside opens

  • 2019 - Present

    2019 - The Fifth Generation - Mossy 5.0 - Savannah Mossy
    2019 - Savannah Mossy, daughter of Jason Mossy, Part of Generation 5.0, joins the business.

    2021 - Mossy Infiniti Kearny Mesa and Escondido open

    2023 - Mossy CDJR in Chula Vista opens

    2023 - Mossy Ineos opens

    2024 - The Mossys' Neighborly Way to Buy is born.

    2024 - Sophia Kelly, granddaughter of Phil Mossy, Part of Generation 5.0, joins the business.
